At Minerva Innovation Group, we believe that our success is driven by the expertise, dedication, and passion of our team. Each member plays a crucial role in delivering innovative and tailored R&D tax relief solutions to our clients. Our commitment to excellence ensures that businesses receive the highest level of support, from navigating HMRC enquiries to identifying and documenting qualifying R&D activities.

In our "Day in the Life" series, we shine a spotlight on the talented professionals behind our success. Today, we’re introducing Evan, an R&D Technical Consultant whose technical expertise and consultative approach helps businesses maximise their R&D tax relief claims.

Career Background

After graduating with a degree in Actuarial Mathematics, Evan began his professional journey with a leading insurance firm in Ireland. 3 years on, he moved away from the insurance industry where he spent time working as Head of Growth and Expansion with an SME. In this role he leveraged his project management skills to enhance the company’s overall online presence. This allowed for a seamless move into the R&D sector where he now works as a Technical Consultant and helps SME’s claim tax credits for their R&D activity.

Role at Minerva Innovation Group

R&D Technical Consultant.

Key Responsibilities

As a Technical Consultant at Minerva Innovation Group, Evan guides clients through the technical aspects of their R&D claims. He leads in-depth discussions to uncover key insights into their R&D activities, identifying and documenting potential projects. Following these discussions, he drafts detailed reports to be included in the overall R&D claim. Throughout the process, he maintains regular communication with clients to ensure all relevant information is accurately captured.

8:00 AM

I start my day by making breakfast, whether it's a bowl of cereal or scrambled eggs. After eating, I brew a coffee and head to my desk to begin work.

8:30 AM

Once settled at my desk, I review my weekly agenda and create a daily plan. This includes checking for any technical meetings I need to attend. Afterward, I go through my emails to address any urgent matters.

9:00 AM – 1:00 PM

In the morning, I focus on working through my daily agenda, which typically includes:

  • Attending technical meetings with new or existing clients.

  • Writing technical narratives for clients after technical discussions have taken place.

  • Collaborating with team members to ensure the cost aspects of the claim align with the technical narratives.

1:00 PM – 1:30 PM

Lunchtime is always a welcome break. I usually take this time to visit the local shop, grab something to eat, and recharge for the rest of the day.

1:30 PM – 4:30 PM

In the afternoon, I continue working through my daily agenda. If time allows, I also dedicate time to focused CPD, ensuring I maintain a high standard of service for both new and existing clients while continuously improving my skills as a Technical Consultant.

4:30 PM – 5:00 PM

As the day winds down, I update my weekly agenda and provide any necessary updates to team members or clients. This helps me stay on top of my workload and ensures I'm well-prepared for the following day.

Why I Love My Job

I have always enjoyed both technical and consultative work throughout my career, making my role as a Technical Consultant at Minerva Innovation Group a perfect fit. It allows me to work on technical projects while also building strong client relationships, ensuring they feel supported and satisfied with every aspect of their claim.
